Has anyone tried 3D Printing Solder

I've been dreaming around different ways to make quick protoype PCBs.

 

It made me wonder - has anyone tried feeding solder through a modded 3D printer to land on a substrate of some sort?

 

So, I did the ole youTube search and found, yep:  3D printing with solder using a MendleMax 2 - YouTube

 

I'm sure there are a lot of thoughts that come to mind as to why it would not be worth trying.  Rather, I'm looking to see if anyone here has tried it and could share their experience with it?

  • Seems more appropriate for art projects than proto PCBs if you could get it to work.  I’m sure people would use it for art.

     

    How were you thinking of attaching components to traces made of solder? And what board material do you think solder would stick to?

     

    It will be interesting to see if others have had success with this.  Have fun experimenting!
