These are some examples of what I get. The final price in Europe, buying pieces and assembling is 250 Euro (including taxes, custom etc.) and is the cheapest price with a reasonable quality I found. Enrico…

RigidBot provides an unconstrained threaded screw drive for the Z-axis by default. The upgrade is a bracket to constrain the screw's "wobble" in the X/Y plane.

@Anthony, the 3D EeZ is an interesting option, although most will just use something like Elmer's gluesticks or dissolved filament scraps in acetone to coat their build plate. For ABS, of course the standard is Kapton polymide tape, but that gets expensive eventually even though a single roll can last a year if you're careful in removing parts.

Curling can be managed by pausing the print at different layers to allow thermal adjustment during the print, enclosing the build space within a hood and adding a heating element (something like a box with a couple lightbulbs inside, etc), and the basic design can play a major role in constraining distortion - including voids in non structural areas can break up the layer tendancy to draw together, etc.

Haven't seen you on here in a while Kirk.  You must be busy finishing up you book.  It was great by the way and something i will promote when im doing 3d printing classes.  I would also add hairspray to list as i have had great sucess using it with my prints.  Its also very cheap.
