arduino 3d printer kit under 200 dollars

Has any one built an Arduino 3d printer that has a decent print area but cost around 200$. I am still in middle school so I can't afford to spend 2,000 dollars on a Makerbot 2. if not, does any one know of a kit with a decent area and doesn't cost to much?

  • I would check out the MakiBox A6 LT.  It will run you $200 for the kit.  Just be aware that this will only print PLA or similar plastic and runs on the Printrboard electronics.  I have also found this to be interesting http://www.peachyprinter.com/.  This is still in the early stages but looks like it could be good for the price.  Remember that the peachy is a SLA type printer where the MakiBox is a FDM.  If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

    The steppers remain the most costly component (~$15 USD/ea) with an Arduino MEGA+RAMPS running around $45-60 USD and stepper controllers around $5-10 USD/ea. Recovering steppers from equipment like ink-jet printers can cut your costs, as will building hall-effect switches using A3144s and resistors can be cheaper than microswitches, while the mostly-printed RepRaps like Quentin's Morgan (Polar-format) or Richard's 3DR (Delta-format) can be fabricated more cost-effectively for the overall build. Much lower vitamin count than many other options.
