What 3D Filament Manufacturer Do You Like The Best?

Just curious as to which 3D Printing filament manufacturer everyone likes the best. I have been testing some new Excelfil Filament from Voltivo.com and I think it may just be the best filament I have ever printed with.

I really like the color options from Faberdashery, but really love Taulman's nylon filament options. I've used most of the US-based options while writing the book "3D Printing for Dummies" while my co-author, Richard Horne, used mostly the UK/EU-based distributors. Avoiding oval-shaped (spooled too hot) and variable thickness (spooled with too little tension) filament, but also anythign with debris in the plastic (metal sprues, insect casings, etc) as those will clog up your nozzles. I personally prefer a non-cardboard spool, because the local environment turns those into paper pulp before they run out.

I have a Printrbot Simple v2 (2013) with UBIS ceramic 0.4mm hotend.  I use 1.75mm PLA.  The filament from printrbot has worked well (raspberry, butter cream, natural, white, black).  I was looking for more colors than PB sells.  I've had good luck with Red from Microcenter which I believe is made by Toner Plastics:

    Micro Center: 1.75mm Red PLA

I had poor luck with Green and Pink from another company.

Finally, I won 1 lbs of Blue PLA 1.75mm from Ultimachine at the Midwest RepRap.  It has printed very well.  I got to talk to the founder of Ultimachine and he explained they were one of the first to sell PLA in the US.  I believe several printer companies like MakerBot had sourced from him.  It was interesting to learn about the supply he uses for both the raw plastic and the dyes.  I'd been wondering if there are any health concerns so it good to know from the owner where it comes from:

    UltiMachine 1.75mm PLA

    https://ultimachine.com/catalog/print-materials/pla

UltiMachine PLA is made from renewable natural resources like corn. Our filament is made from highest quality NatureWorks Ingeo resins. It is made from corn grown in the United States. The manufacturing is done in the United States. So it is entirely made in the United States. Our filament is designed specifically for RepRap use and is community tested and approved.

    Benefits:

    • Less warping when printing
    • Eco-friendly material
    • Sweet Smell

    Cheers,

    Drew
