3D printing machines that have hitherto been imported to India are now been made for the first time in India by Mumbai-based J Group Robotics.
Launching their Vector PLA 3D printer in Mumbai on Thursday, Vaibhav Jariwala, founder and Ceo said an imported machine costs `4 lakh whilst the Indian one costs `1.49 lakh. This also brings down the cost of the items produced, he said. A motorised prosthetic arm for instance made by the Indian 3D printer would cost `4 lakh compared to `10 lakh through the imported printer. The printer took one and a half years to develop.
The 3D printing market is at a nascent stage, he said. China is already very advanced and has invested around $50 million. “We see a huge potential and believe that the industry in the country needs to be streamlined,” he said adding that the Vector PLA 3D will revolutionise the dynamics and assist innovations across verticals to be converted to real life tailor-made objects.
The manufacturing sector could benefit most as making a model for a product is very expensive from the moulding stage to completion and becomes viable only if the item is mass produced. Through 3D printing one can manufacture a single product for a single individual and can perform experiments very cheaply. The Vector PLA 3D converts the computer design to real life objects like cell phone covers, fashion accessories, jewellery, headphones, speakers, camera lens, flute, guitars etc.
