ROBOX New Head Calibration

Hi, Those with Robox printers might find this useful.

 

I've recently had a new head for the CEL ROBOX printer after the last head burst its seals and splurged plastic all over itself, out of warranty of course.

After putting the head on and purging to Polar White PLA, I had issues with poor extrusion, feeder slipping and so on.  I ran the nozzle opening calibration and (touch wood,) the printer is now working normally.

The head is a Quick fill V2

 

Before calibration my B values were 0.8 and -0.8

After calibration the values are 1.55 and -1.6

 

That seems like a fairly big difference and explains the under extrusion issues.

Has anyone else seen this.  I was under the impression that the heads came pre-calibrated.

    I have done a lot of printing with my Cel Robox and have blown the seals twice. The first time it was fixed under warranty. I have not replaced it yet after it blew a second seal because it is also cogging at one of the end stops. I'm still researching how to fix that before spending the money to buy a new extruder assembly. I'm surprised it lasted this long, given how much printing I do, but it now needs an overhaul. I would hope a new head is just plug-and-play.

    I recently had to also buy a new head (200$... ouch), the change was pretty easy, just ran the standard calibration routines and that was it.

    Be warned that a new head comes with very little warranty, something like 100 Hrs of printing or 3 months, whichever comes first

     

    Mine did not burst seals, it simply clogged and according to CEL, they never clog.... go figure. I can build a pretty good printer for the price of 2 heads and there after not have to spend more than a few $$$ for any repair.

     

    On the other hand, I do like the simplicity and ease of use of the CEL Robox and can see the advantage in many situations but if your switching filament types alot, be warned, it can choke and there is nothing official you can do about it (No Serviceable parts inside, at best you can return to factory and hope they can fix it)
