Extruder slipping?

bradnorwood

I've adjusted and adjusted, my extruder motor keeps slipping, it's been going away at times, but comes right back, I've tightened the grabber and loosened it, it still skips, I thought it was cloged but it seemed clear unless it's on the inside? Can anyone help?

Yeah probably the filiment needs to get hotter and the Stepper cooler. you might try a small fan on the back of the stepper with a baffle to make sure you are not cooling the head down at the same time…

Other things to check is that the hopped bolt/drive gear is not full of filament.  Over time the teeth will fill with filament and need to get cleaned.  Another thing to check is make sure that the filament comes off the roll easy.  If the motor has to work to pull then you will get skipping.  It rare occasions it could be the stepper driver.

I'm gonna try swapping the y motor and the extruder motor for now, they are closest and won't require any rewiring, if this works I know what's wrong, if not then uh oh lol

That was It! By swapping the y and extruder the problem is solved! Apparently large kysan motors are not enough for extrusion, but the next size is a nema 23, I may have to stock up on the nema 17's until a fix is figured out...

That's interesting that the nema 17 is struggling with the extrusion.  I have 17's on all my machines and have never had a problem.  Maybe it was bad from the beginning or your machines is adding to much resistance.   How fast is your feed rate?  Does the motor get hot when operating?

Also are you printing with PLA or ABS?
