A QR-code-based system is being taken to the next level! Bitrip, an adhesive tape featuring a barcode pattern, allows the user to mark surfaces or objects with a digital tag. By attaching a piece of Bitrip tape and capturing an image through its app, a user can record its location, take notes, photos and capture a voice recording. The Bitrip tape has applications for pipe and wiring tracking along with item inventories. One roll, containing 300 labels, costs $39.99 and comes in a variety of colors.
With its unique pattern, just about anyone can store digital content, such as photos, audio files, PDFs, and text messages on BitRip, attached to physical objects. Then, a user can access the content from the smartphone app, where it can be organized and shared with team members through the library search feature. The content becomes accessible once a user hovers their phone over the tape.

The Bitrip product is also incredibly rigid. Compared to QR barcodes, which can only sustain 30% damage, the digital tape can handle 95% damage and still work. Each piece is GPS-tracked, which can be located on an interactive map.
These are very useful for tracking punch lists in construction, pin facilities, and maintenance documentation. For example, it can be attached to equipment, tools, materials, fixed assets, hardhats for pinning safety and qualification information.
I daydream of logging and categorizing all my shop supplies/tools as I write this…
