Google’s Drive for Education will give students unlimited storage for free (via Google)
What’s better than having unlimited storage in Google’s Drive cloud service? How about making it free! Yep, that’s the idea behind Google’s new Drive for Education initiative, which was rolled out a few weeks ago and aimed at students. Google is solidifying their war against paper by adding Drive to their Apps for Education platform, giving students a digital backpack of sorts to keep every document in one easy to access place (no more excuses for the dog eating your homework).
Earlier in the year, Google released their Drive for Work app package at a premium of $10 a month that also featured unlimited storage and was aimed at office professionals needing more space than what the original Drive could offer. Student’s on the other hand will get an improved version of Drive, free to all non-profit educational institutions (public schools). Students will be able to store files as large as 5TB, which is plenty for most work but nowhere near large enough for most of today’s games (think Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor). Google is slowly rolling the service out, however schools that already have Drive for Education should see the unlimited storage up and running in the next week or two.
