Two common connector issues are ease-of-installation and correct positioning for cable management. Ease of installation is solved in many different ways. Some of them work (e.g., keying) adequately, yet others, not so. I've always found that even with keying it's possible to mismate a connector, especially in dimly lighted environments--potentially damaging a connector pin.
Another common connector issue is aligning the connector to the receptable so the cable is managed in such a way that it is out of the way and does not have excessive tension.
