Connectors for Harsh Environments

While many electronic products operated in controlled environments, there are just as many that operate in less than desirable conditions such as moisture/humidity, water sprays, dust, and explosive atmospheres or pressure. The following content is a roundup of useful information regarding connectors designed for harsh environments.

I have designed electronics for most harsh environments over the past few decades. From the ocean floor all the way to space, most of the transportation industries, several heavy industries, including mining, military applications and instrumentation to measure explosions at close range. Connectors are always important and it is usually hard to find the best connector for an application. The trade-offs between performance, cost and size almost always imply a compromise.
