Indeed. Logan established in Day of the Dead -- with immense gore and graphic content -- how the zombies aren't eating for sustenance, by removing the stomach and internal organs from one, and showing how it still tried to bite him! I won't put a screen grab on here, as that bit's particularly visceral, though
I don't believe that zombies from The Walking Dead universe were found or shown to eat for energy. Their systems were reactivated by the virus. They stop moving only when they are completely decayed away. (Even then... they are still active.)
George A. Romero's universe (which the walking dead was originally based in, first pages drawn), the zombies could be stripped of everything but a nervous system and the core of the brain - and still function. (see Day of the Dead)
It was the remake of the film "Dawn of the Dead" where the director/writer showed the zombies losing weight as the show went on. But, this is an isolated film.
I love this. And, yes it would totally work mechanically with some tweaking... with one exception. Conservation of energy. I may be wrong on all genres, but zombies EAT the living for food. They get their energy from this consumption. People who are unfortunate enough to only be bitten turn. Therefore, without a viable food source, the zombie battery deck of 250 would quickly need replenishing.
So, either set up a harvesting crew to collect replacement zombies (again big box stores are a good start), put together a feed farm (I remember zombies like meat, but poultry and or fish might do as well). Of course optimization can occur too, along with dropping down the load requirements to maybe just your super cool compound... and switching to all LED lights.
Only ever seen pictures, but yes that would cover it.
Sync'ing the inverter outputs might be the big headache, but only if you wanted to connect to a grid, where there is a single Juman guarding 250 of them.
This almost sounds like a Myth Busters Episode ...
