Many of today’s MCU applications require very low power consumption to extend battery life and reduce electricity demand. Microchip’s new PIC18F47J13PIC18F47J13 offers high memory density and low power in a small-footprint package to keep power budgets and BOM costs low.
The 8-bit MCU is said to be the industry’s first to feature 128 KB Flash program memory in a 28-pin package. Also available in a 44-pin package, the part uses Microship’s XLP (eXtreme Low Power) technology and incorporates mTouchcapability for implementing capacitive touch sensing user interfaces and an on-chip 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC).
Pricing starts at $2.11 each, in 10,000-unit quantities.
It may be that in some cases the package is an advantage but I'm not sure that it is especially cheap - is it any cheaper than a STM32F100CB, ARM Cortex, 128k Flash, 48 pin with many nice peripherals on board including DAC, 12 bit ADC, CRC generator, DMA, etc etc.
