Hi, Ben, A couple of ADCs that should do well in your application with Hall Effect sensors are the ADS1146 and the ADS1255, both from Texas Instruments. I am sure that other suppliers probably have suitable…

The reason that you picked up radio signals when connecting a long wire antenna to the input is because the ADC had an input bandwidth that could pick up those signals. The sampling action of the ADC then…

I've been wondering if there are "semi-smart" DACs in the audio frequency range?

What I had in mind was something like a modern uart; 64bytes of FIFO and a rate

generator, so you could tell it "convert this stream of digital info to analog at 8k samples

per second, but only interrrupt me every 5ms so I can fill up the FIFO via some high-speed

interface, rather than every 125 us (one sample.)

I guess usually this is done by putting a smarter processor on the other side (one with DMA

capabilities and specialized interfaces like IIS(?)), but I was hoping for something usable

    with simpler microcontrollers.

For that matter, are there any audio-oriented CPU/DAC combos that lie somewhere in

between an ISD chip and a consumer MP3 device?

    Thanks

    Bill W

What you are requesting would be a great product, but I am not aware that anything like it exists. Austria Microsystems does have a AS3531 that is preliminary or very new that MIGHT do this, but I am not familiar with it other than the fact that it exists. It is called a "Mobile Entertainment IC" and can be found at http://www.austriamicrosystems.com/eng/Products/Mobile-Entertainment/Mobile-Entertainment-Players/AS3531. The data sheet is not on the web site and must be requested (can be done from this site), which tells me that it probably is not yet released. Please let me know if you find that this device does what you want.

I am sorry that I can not be of more help.

    Bill,

I also am not aware of any product that does what you describe.   Nicholas Gray has already pointed you to Austriamicrosystems as a possibility.  I am sure you are aware of the necessity to keep the effective audio sample rate the same from input to the DAC to the output of the high speed interface, else the audio will sound funny or not at all.
