Doubt on RF connector and cables

shrins
shrins over 5 years ago

Hi, I am using the RF / Coaxial Connector CBBJR79CBBJR79 in my PCB design. I need a triaxial cable that is terminated at both ends with a three-slot male triaxial connector to connect from the PCB to the Keithley 6514 electrometer. The datasheet of the electrometer suggests to use 7078-TRX-57078-TRX-5 family of triaxial cables. My question is whether I can connect the  7078-TRX-57078-TRX-5 family of triaxial cables to the triaxial connector CBBJR79CBBJR79?

I don't know the answer, you might have to ask Keithley for the answer, but perhaps they expect/hope you to buy this bulkhead connector bulkhead connector instead. A bit more expensive though but still…

It looks OK - you can buy official and much cheaper un-official tri-axial cables from RS:664-6441 You could buy one and check that it fits both the Keithly and your connector. You need to watch out because…

You could buy one and check that it fits both the Keithly and your connector.

You need to watch out because there are 3 lug and 2 lug tri-axial BNC connectors which won't mate - Keithley use 3 lug.

Michael, I have to use CBBJR79 in my PCB and Keithley 6514 electrometer for the current measurements. I was not able to find the dimensions of the 7078-TRX-5 family triax cables, I don't know whether it will be compatible with  CBBJR79.. Any suggestions on how can I get more information on this?

There is a Keithley data sheet for the cable but it has no dimensions or part numbers for the connectors they use !

All I can suggest is that you actually measure the CBBJR79 and the connector on the instrument and compare the two.

If they are the same the standard cable will work.
