Li-ion charger function

Hi people

I have just bought this item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251033573807 (not arrived yet) and I was looking for some advice, always a good ploy, especially if it avoids having cells catch fire.....

The spec says

Input volt (between B+ / B- )

VSS-0.3~VSS+26

V

but what does that mean? As far as I can see the voltage between B+ / B- is the battery voltage (say 4x3V7).

Also how do I determine the charge voltage? Do I need to (except to ensure it is sufficient and sensible)?

I hope this is all obvious to someone who knows.

I have messsaged the supplier but no answer yet.

Thank you

From what I can tell they mislabelled things. P- and P+ should be power input into the circuit with everything between B- and B+ being output of the charger. Unless this is designed to take input from 4 batteries to charge another circuit, but I doubt that. But pay attention to the operating voltage which is between 2V and 24V So anything between that will charge the batteries. But I recommend inputting more then 15V if you will be using 4x 3.7V Li-ion batteries.

    Hi Micheal

    Thanks for that

I did wonder whether they meant P- and P+.....maybe.  I have just received an answer from tchwarehouse-au

"input voltage is 16.8v to 18v"

How this comes from the data I don't know but I guess that is to say a bit more than 4x3V7, as I suspected and you suggested. It seems to me unlikely that the circuit will charge with anything lower than the battery voltage (I see no inductors), still stranger things....

So I am still unclear what is meant by "input volt" and "operating voltage".  AFAIK in discharge mode the output voltage can range only from a little below, to a but more below, the combined nominal voltage of the 4 cells in series.

Maybe I'll know more  when I get to play with it.
