Hey jack
To make a 3d printer will cost you around $400 for an entry level printer. There is companies out there that are selling them cheaper at around $300 like Makibox. A great website is reprap.org. This should give you all the information you need to know, like the different boards, types of printers(Cartesian, delta, polar), hot ends and so on. If you have any questions dont hesitate to shoot them my way. Hope this gives you a starting ground.

I'm pretty new to this stuff as well but I would love to build my own 3d printer as a lesson in getting more familiar with programmable electronics. From what I've been able to determine, you can find kits online that sell all the electronic components needed to piece the printer together. I've found a few kits that are around $300 but then you'll also have to fork out a little extra cash to design and build your own frame. I'd like to know how your progress goes in your efforts to find your own printer.
