I don't seem to find anything of use - perhaps they're not stocked: https://export.farnell.com/c/passive-components/potentiometers-trimmers-accessories/rotary-potentiometers?st=switch - Gough

That is a bit strange. When I order parts from Newark that are only in stock at Farnell in the UK, they seem to ship from the UK without charging me extra shipping. If you try ordering locally, maybe it…

I find about 200 rotary pots with switches on the Newark site, mostly TT Electronics. Starting at less than $1. I'm not sure how to search Farnell, but the same parts should be on that site.

    Try this part number:

In the UK we get a delivery charge applied for US warehouse items e.g.:

It is such an irritating charge. It puts those parts out of reach for home use. In 10+ years, I've only used that once, out of necessity.

Finding potentiometers with the right configuration (value, log/lin, cermet, single/dual-gang etc is not easy, at least in the UK, at a fair price any more, so sometimes worth designing around the problem if possible (e.g. digitally adjust levels if possible, not always easy : (

If this is a new design then it is definitely worth avoiding integrating a switch, since that just increases the likelihood of not finding parts.

Also sometimes a potentiometer can be replaced with a rotary switch, e.g. 2-gang 6-pos switch, if those discrete settings could work. It depends on the use-case of course.

    Thanks Shabaz for the advice,

Planning to make a adjustable led driver with seamless dimming on a rotary switch (retro-feeling, I now there are push button solutions etc)

I Like the 6-pos switch will remember that one for futere projects.

Would be cool if they could sell the US items with a week delay so they can send all the items from the us to a EU ware house and the send to customers.

    Cheers

    Hi Graaf,

Totally agree, there has got to be a better way instead of that extra charge.

Adjustable LED with rotary control definitely seems a good use-case for a potentiometer as you say. I have several LED lights and to me the ones with potentiometer control feel the best.

In the UK you're expected to shop from https://cpc.farnell.com for home use, https://uk.farnell.com is expected to be for business to business - which's why they usually require you to have a trade account and a VAT number.

Sometimes the restriction is from the supplier, that the supplier only agrees contracts on certain parts in particular regions, or the online stores have only been able to arrange a contract from that supplier in that region.

In this case it may be that those parts are only available to Farnell/Newark as a company in America, but can't get an agreement outside of the country for it to be supplied to the warehouse. This's usually how it works.

Often a good way to check is to look at the regional store, in this case, https://www.newark.com and compare.

    Hmm..
