If it has to be Fluke brand, the Fluke 101 is the most affordable one I've found. Regrettably, Fluke has not lived up to its image over the years. My old 87's are awesome but my newer 289's have been…

Have you seen the price of them? Unless you're actually working on mains or other high voltages (which it sounds like you are not, according to what you ask for), then I'm not sure it's worthwhile at all to use a Fluke multimeter. The most basic one for some development work is probably 170 series, which currently costs > £300 GBP in the UK at least.

You're looking close to £1k for a logging Fluke multimeter...

There's not many Fluke options so you can easily decide for yourself based on what your full requirements are, by checking their website. If you insist on Fluke and truly want the 'best' one as you say, then it's likely Fluke 287 which is currently approaching £1k price.

I'd suggest you search the internet for products on the market in your price range and reviews of them as you haven't given much information about what your needs are and what your budget is.

There are so many options at different price points - you should do your research instead of just asking openly, as someone might recommend a top-of-the-line Weller, Metcal, Ersa, JBC, Thermaltronics ... while someone else may recommend a more reasonably priced Hakko, Atten, Yihua, etc.

Regrettably, Fluke has not lived up to its image over the years.  My old 87's are awesome but my newer 289's have been a litany of disappointment.  If it's even mildly cold outside, they cannot sense the leads.  It is supposed to have a limited lifetime warranty but my local Fluke repair shop says that I will have to pay to have them repaired.  I've also been disappointed by sending meters back to Fluke.  I had a charging problem with my 192B scope.  Returned it to Fluke with a brand new battery.  They replaced the new battery with another new battery, charged me and returned it - and completely failed to solve the charging problem.  Needless to say, my brand loyalty has diminished significantly.

If you look for budget friendly, you have to look for other brands. Fluke is not playing in that league (same for the Weller WXSMART soldering station advised below).
For budget + functionality, these brands aren't going to do it.

If you look for devices that can survive on a bench in a company's lab, shopfloor or workshop, for long time, they have solutions.

If this is your first meter I suggest you start with another unit and discover what you need. I own a Fluke 70. I have it for 30 years. The company gave me the option to purchase it when I resigned. I have other meters the Fluke is a primo meter.

I recommend starting with a less expensive meter to discover what you like and what you don't. Buttons or dial? Analogue or digital. Let's hope your meter discovery don't result in a an resistance setting that doesn't work because you tried to measure voltage on the wrong setting. Some meters will prevent this and sum meters will only let you do it once and then it doesn't work anymore.
