Hi, can we use part #HCPL2631SDM as replacement for HCPL2631SD ?

and can you please explain impact due to variation in output current ?

  • Hi, 

    Some engineer should be looking at your circuit to make this decision, and some testing would be required. I don't think it is safe to assume it will work, although there's a very good chance it will. No-one knows if your circuit is operating the device at the edge of margins for instance, and there are small differences which might not affect anything at all, but it is impossible for anyone to tell, unless they examined your circuit, and ran tests.

  • Can you post the portion of the datasheets that needs explanation? The M parts seem to have higher transient protection but are otherwise similar. What (ESD) environment are these intended to work in?.

  • There are some parameters differences between these two ICs. For example the M variant has more insulation voltage than other (5kV vs 2.5kV). Even M variant has faster response I guess. As M variant has better response I think you can replace HCPL2631SD with HCPL2631SDM.
