Qi sniffer software download

ccappelli
ccappelli over 1 year ago

Good morning,

due to a computer failure I have to reinstall the "Qi Development System" software version 1.7.21333.1 or later.

Unfortunately I lost the installation program and the link you provided me last year is no longer valid.

Could you please send the updated link to download the Qi Development System program?

Here you will find the purchase document.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Christian.

I feel your pain ! I had a quick look and I see that the Avnet site has now given up on running its own forums and refers you to E14 and HacksterIO. Both good places but no substitute for product support…

    Hi ccappelli ,

I have removed the purchase document, because this is a public website and a public forum, it is not the place to post that kind of content.

As this is the element14 Community, direct support for this product is available from Avnet: https://www.avnet.com/wps/portal/us/about-avnet/contact/ as it is designed by avnet: https://www.avnet.com/shop/us/products/avnet-engineering-services/101-01-3074457345632566717/

Though after some digging around, I have found archives of the software on the web archive and so I linked to it on the dev tools page:  Qi Sniffer V1.2

    Hi cstanton,

what you tell me is funny, because Avnet support responds to the same request in the following way (textual words).

    "Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry. We don't have the ability to support customer technical questions, those should all be directed to the forums on the Element14 website. The engineers that monitor those forums is the team that creates our reference designs so very capable.

    https://www.element14.com/community/welcome

    element14 Community

    Thank You For choosing Avnet."

    This bouncing is really frustrating!!!

I purchased this product which costs more than a thousand euros just last year and I can't get assistance with such a simple question:

WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE TO MAKE IT WORK?

I also saw the links you indicated, but they refer to a very old version of the software, 1.3.3029 which doesn't work well at all.

At the time of purchase you provided me with the link to download version 1.7.21333.1 which worked perfectly.

However, I thank you for your fruitful cooperation.

Next time I have to buy an AVNET or element14 product I will definitely remember this story...

You have surely lost a customer.

    Greetings,

    Christian.

I will see if I can find someone internally who can correct Avnet's technical support response, it's definitely outdated as the link they're using to the website isn't correct. That's pretty poor that they've put such a low amount of effort into this.

It's at the bottom of the page

Unfortunately on the element14 Community we do not have access to anything more recent, product technical support is more of an online store thing.

Was that from the element14 Community? Or was it from Newark/Farnell/element14 apac store?

    Hi cstanton,

was two engineers from Avid Tecnologies.

I have tried to ask them directly, but nothing for the moment.

I will let you know if I receive a response.

If I try to make a new request to Avnet (formerly Avid Technologies) they reply to ask you, as I told you in the previous post.

    Regards,

    Christian.

    Hi cstanton,

the addresses of the two Avnet engineers I wrote to are no longer valid.

    I'm back where I started.

If you have the opportunity to contact Avnet technical support I would be very grateful.

    Regards,

    Christian.

I do not have a direct escalation point, but that doesn't stop me from asking, I do not have a timeline for receiving a response.

Newark.com and Farnell.com also sold this product, what did newark or farnell technical support say when you asked them?

I had a quick look and I see that the Avnet site has now given up on running its own forums and refers you to E14 and HacksterIO. Both good places but no substitute for product support engineers.

I find it quite remarkable that an organisation like Avnet is willing to just drop all support for a product just because they have stopped making it.

It would take very little effort on their part to make the downloads accessible.

The decent thing would be to make all the technical documentation (including code) public so that the devices in the field can be supported.

If you don't get anywhere you could try an approach to Avnet head office and ask them how their Qi Sniffer policy lines up with this:

    https://www.avnet.com/wps/portal/us/about-avnet/corporate-social-responsibility/overview/

    Good luck.

    MK

Indeed, it's something I personally do not agree with and yet we have definitely removed products and information from the site nearly immediately when we're told that we no longer stock them - I think that people forget the product doesn't magically disappear and my thoughts are that there's some obligation there to prevent e-waste. We have the capacity here on the element14 Community to store files and list products, so I attempt to get in touch with and work with our technical support to provide that, and at least provide a Community level of support.

An example of this is the Tenma products, which require some drivers and we've managed to provide those files in the Community where they don't necessarily have a place in the online stores any longer.
