Peak ESR70 Plus price differences

Rayzer
Rayzer over 2 years ago

Hello all, I'd like to purchase the Peak ERS70 Plus but I see there are two choices. Can anyone shed a light on the technical difference between Peak ESR70 with order codes 291787802 and 2917878? There is close to $50 difference in price. I've used the online compare and they are identical.
I had had this occurance once before when looking at the Multicomp Rework Stations, two "seemingly" identical units had a rather large price difference. In the end I didn't buy either of them.

Thanks for any feedback.

LOL - yours was one of the videos which convinced me to take the plunge. I was just concerned that one of the two units up for sale was "old" stock with the other more expensive unit having newer firmware…

Any order code that is X will be the same as X01 and X02.

It's possibly a regional promotion. The two order codes are the same, except one has 02 appended on it. Although one region can get a discount, the other region cannot. In other words, although you may be able to see both prices (i.e. you can enjoy the discount), other regions will not be able to see the 02 suffix price.

I have an ESR70 (given to me by the community for a video) and I love using it.

So if you can get one with a good discount, then early Christmas indeed!

    They are great tools.

I've no idea, I'm guessing so, the reason could be market segmentation. In the UK, there are at least two presences owned by Farnell, one, called CPC, is for hobbyists, with their own order codes.

If I try entering the '02' code on the UK B2B site, computer says no, whereas the code minus '02' works.

If I search (it has a completely different order code) on the UK hobbyist site, I can see a lower price. Perhaps in AU Farnell only has one presence and has to segment in this way. At that lower cost I can imagine it's a useful tool for all.

I was just concerned that one of the two units up for sale was "old" stock with the other more expensive unit having newer firmware and or bugs fixed.

Anyhow, thanks for the great videos

    Cool!

I haven't heard or looked into any updates Peak has done.

But I have used mine for several years and never encountered any issues with it. At least, nothing that would make me say, "I wish they made a new version."

Well, the battery did die after about 4 years. Slight smile

So, I think it is safe to assume the price difference is a fortuitous discount.

No. It isn't. Whenever element14 runs promotions on products, at least here in AU, they add 01 or 02 to the end of the product code. Same product, lower price. If not, they will have different order codes.

This one specifically, as it turns out, is part of the current Connect Magazine 44 promotion - you can find it on the AU site with a search for "Connect44TestandTools esr":

    https://au.element14.com/peak-electronic-design/esr70/esr-meter-w-audible-alert-capacitor/dp/291787802?ost=Connect44TestandTools+esr&ICID=I-CT-LP-CONNECT44-TEST_MEASURE-SEP23-WF3358035&cfm=true

I previously asked a rep, over the phone, about the mystery of the 01/02 suffix which is how I learnt about it in the first place.
