4mm banana plug such as DELTRON COMPONENTS 553-0500-01, how to take it apart? Squeezing isn't working.

The 4mm banana plugs are actually RS. U.K. PAT.APP.

I have put them together but now cannot take them apart.

The round inner shaft is stuck in the plastic outer casing, under a hexagonal lip.

I had thought that if I squeezed the outer case, the hexagonal hole would deform and the shaft can be pushed out but I cannot get that to work.

There is a spring on the male input. Does that need to be pushed in?

It is frustrating!!!!

Thank you for any information.

Hi, the wire is 2mm. Unscrewed screw, pulled flexible multicore wire out and that did it. Squeezed with pliers, pushed plug pin down onto desk and out she came! Thanks to everyone for all their hints and…

On some there is a recessed clip that prevents it from sliding once assembled.

I have some of those. They can be stiff but the plug does just push out - try putting the end of the plug onto your desk and pushing the casing down towards the desk. That's how I do it.

    Hello,

I suspect that you are not being fierce enough. Try warming the whole thing up, holding the plastic in pliers and pushing down with the pin on a hard surface.

These things are not really intended to cope with multiple assemble/dis-assemble cycles.

I will have another go, thanks. Was doing as you said - pushing down onto desk. At least I know I had the right idea. Thanks.

"Not being fierce enough", I like it and it's probably true! I put odd coloured plugs on a cable and have now got matching coloured plugs so was going to just get everything looking nice. I will try to follow your advice. Thank you.

Those are my favourite banana plugs, low-cost, and stackable and easy and reliable to wire up (I use a bare ferrule on the strands, shorten it, and then screw that down).  Perfect : )

Like mentioned above, lots of force (pushing from the plastic end, with the metal end against a desk) can remove it if required.

Yeah, I seem to be damaging the plastic housing with my pliers but will persevere. Thanks.

It sounds like something isn’t right.  They are stiff but don’t require excessive force to take apart, definitely doesn’t require pliers.  I just tried again and the plug slid out of the housing pretty easily.  I’d judge them as stiff enough that inserting them into a jack doesn’t push the plug out of the housing (unlike some rubbish ones I have) but any more than that, they come apart.  What gauge wire did you use?  Is it flexible - can you undo the screw and remove the wire whilst the plug is still in the housing?  It may not be possible because of the angle.  Having the wire out may give you some wiggle room,
