4mm banana plug such as DELTRON COMPONENTS 553-0500-01, how to take it apart? Squeezing isn't working.

The 4mm banana plugs are actually RS. U.K. PAT.APP.

I have put them together but now cannot take them apart.

The round inner shaft is stuck in the plastic outer casing, under a hexagonal lip.

I had thought that if I squeezed the outer case, the hexagonal hole would deform and the shaft can be pushed out but I cannot get that to work.

There is a spring on the male input. Does that need to be pushed in?

It is frustrating!!!!

    Those are my favourite banana plugs, low-cost, and stackable and easy and reliable to wire up (I use a bare ferrule on the strands, shorten it, and then screw that down).  Perfect : ) 

    Like mentioned above, lots of force (pushing from the plastic end, with the metal end against a desk) can remove it if required.

    Yeah, I seem to be damaging the plastic housing with my pliers but will persevere. Thanks.

    It sounds like something isn’t right.  They are stiff but don’t require excessive force to take apart, definitely doesn’t require pliers.  I just tried again and the plug slid out of the housing pretty easily.  I’d judge them as stiff enough that inserting them into a jack doesn’t push the plug out of the housing (unlike some rubbish ones I have) but any more than that, they come apart.  What gauge wire did you use?  Is it flexible - can you undo the screw and remove the wire whilst the plug is still in the housing?  It may not be possible because of the angle.  Having the wire out may give you some wiggle room,
