Breadboard

Chaim
Chaim over 1 year ago

I have been thinking about the following: I'm disabled with a couple issues, my wife has been helping me breadboard because my  illness makes it hard for to build circuits due to my coordination (eye hand coordination). My wife and I have been talking about my problem and I think there must be many people in the same situation as I am in.

I am thinking building safety circuits that come with the breadboard

1) power and current safety circuits

2) polarity protection

3) how to make these circuits on a single board that is easy to put on a Breadboard

4) finally my dream is to make a Breadboard and circuits bundle for people with disabilities , or anyone.

5) cost to be determined

Any comments, ideas or help getting this dream to market would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I think that part of this can be achieved by power supply module like this:

    breadboard PS module

    this way:

    - module-breadboard polarity is enforced by the module connector to the board power rails

    - wall power supply polarity is enforced by the barrel connector

    - current is limited by the power supply and the module (using usually linear regulators like 1117 - that are limiting current to the rated level and have temperature shutdown - so, considering no meaningful radiator would be even more limiting)

    - the module itself is very cheap and widely available

The Digilent PowerBRICK format might give you some ideas

    https://digilent.com/shop/powerbricks-breadboardable-dual-output-usb-power-supplies/

Keeps all the power supply side safely out of the way and different voltage outputs can be easily daisy-chained off the first brick that is connected to a  USB power supply.

This might be something that Clem mayermakes might be able to pick up on the element14 Presents channel as a project.

There are some laboratory / educational  / trainer breadboards which have the power supply and breadboard integrated into the one standalone  unit. Some also have additional functionality like meters, LEDs, switches built-in. I expect some already have some safety features built in, but that all-in-one style might be worth considering.

Are breadboards going to be the limiting factor under these constraints?

I'd expect that the problems listed here, like correct power, correct polarity, ..., require less (or the same) eye hand coordination than putting a LED, resistor, diode or capacitor on a breadboard, in the right way.
