I'm fixing a broken Nexus 10 Tablet, and I need a part

Specifically, my dad already had a go at fixing the Nexus 10, and he was more than a little heavy handed, and did the typical thing, and broke this rather annoying clip:

image

The ribbon cable still seats in it, because the white component is there, it's the black lever/clamp that's snapped off; and as anyone who has experience with this, it's pretty much written off because you can't put it back, and you really can't (unless you're super lucky) put pressure back on it.

Annoyingly this affects the digitiser, so the device isn't a full write-off, but it no longer has a useful touch screen, and I'd like it to be, so that I can use it as an IoT/in house front-end for home automation stuff local to my network.

I think it's a 0.5mm pitch, 50 pin FPC/FFC ZIF connector, and I'm having difficulty finding it online.

If anyone could advise on where I can buy this so that I can replace it myself (I have solder paste, hot air station, etc.) I'd appreciate it. Or I'm open to alternative whacky ideas of fixing this sort of clamp for the fun of it.

Thanks for reading.

LCD diffusers of different thickness are kept in stock for urgent repairs and always worked out fine. You need to use real Kapton not chinese polyimide tape.

You could find another broken tablet and take the part you need from it.  This will start you on your journey of collecting other people's broken things - because they might have parts you'll need later to build more better stuff.  If you count my basement, shed, and garage, plus two labs at work, I've probably accumulated 1000 square feet of other people's broken things.

Yes, acquiring broken equipment is a sickness, but you have so much fun seeing what's inside.

This week I fixed the gimbal on a dji mavic pro, fortunately the ribbon cable for it was easier to acquire!
