There can be lots of reasons why devices stop working.
There are ways to make systems fault tolerant, but it takes time and effort to build these types of systems.
Most modern devices are designed to be used and tosses.
I still have electronic devices that work after 25 or 30 years. I use them every day and they continue to perform well.
I don't live near the beach, even though I use a dehumidifier in my room, the humidity varies from 59-70%, if the dehumidifier dies it remains at 70%
What is the maximum interval for energizing electronic devices and remove humidity and preventing oxidation and corrosion?
Some things I encountered with old electronics are:
1) Oxidation on a flex cable within a DVD player
2) Broken belts on cassette players
3) Leadfree solder joints turning dull and brittle after 8 years
4) A turntable belt becoming sticky like a fruit roll up over time
5) Switches that make poor and inconsistent contact
