Are you or a loved one encountering challenges with industrial IoT sensing applications such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance? Then STMicroelectronics’ STWINBX1 Development Kit could be the solution that mitigates those issues. The STWIN.box is the company’s upgraded version of the original STWIN kit, which offers improved mechanical accuracy for vibration sensing, increased durability, and an updated bill of materials (BOM).
The new STWIN.box comes equipped with an ultra-low-power STM32U585AI microcontroller (Arm Cortex-M33, 2MB Flash) and includes industrial-grade sensors, which support 9 DoF motion sensing, wide-bandwidth vibration analysis, audio and ultrasound inspection, temperature, and environmental monitoring.
The kit also comes with a variety of connectivity options to suit most project needs, including support for Bluetooth Low Energy v5.0 (BlueNRG-M2), Wi-Fi (EMW3080), and NFC (ST25DV04K). It also packs an RS485 transceiver and an optional STSAFE-A110 secure element for authentication. Data logging support is handled via MicroSD, while add-on devices can tap into a 34-pin FPC connector, which is compatible with ST’s daughterboards, such as the STEVAL-C34KAT1 vibrometer and temperature sensors.
Beyond the STWIN.box core system, the kit comes with a 480mAh LiPo battery, an adapter for the ST-LINK debugger, a plastic case, an adapter board for DIL 24 sensors and a flexible cable. The STWINBX1 Development Kit is available now for just over $120, but the element14 Community is giving it away in their latest Roadtest for those interested in reviewing the kit.
According to element14 Community, the preferred way to test it would be to use it with something you are currently working on. Otherwise, working with the documentation, open the box and test the out-of-the-box experience.
