DEFCON isn't the only convention dedicated to hackers; ITCH Infotech is getting in on the hackathon trend as well. The Indian based company recently launched iTech 2015, an annual technology conference. As part of the event, ITC will host a two-day Internet of Things (IoT) hackathon at its campus in Bangalore on July 4th – 5th. The event is open to business startups and students as an opportunity to develop ideas for different business challenges. Competition categories include the following:
- Smart retail, which focuses on enhancing the availability and visibility of stocks for consumer goods
- Smart manufacturing, which aims to create intelligent manufacturing units and reliable plant, machinery, and equipment health
- Smart supply chains, which focuses on warehouses, inventory management, transportation, planning, and tracking of supply chains
- Smart agriculture, which looks for solutions to enhance productivity of farming equipment, soil composition sensing, and the impact of climate changes
- Open category for participants with a case that does not fit any of the other categories.
Working in teams of two, participants will then have to build and present their prototypes directly to business users. ITC Infotech will then partner with the winners and help them develop their ideas, create a joint go-to market, and provide market access. There will also be a cash prize of Rs. 200,000 to winners and Rs. 100,000 to the runners up.
Students who participate will be given an IoT kit and Infotech's mentors and experts will help them with their prototypes. Professionals and developers in the field can also take part of the event. There will also be a 30-hour building contest using IoT provided by the company. ITC Infotech CEO and MD Sushma Rajagopalan said “We will provide intellectual capital for mentoring budding innovators and provide tools to develop ideas to prototypes using disruptive technology.”
Speaking about the event, Rajagopalan continues “iTech 2015 is one of our multi-dimensional initiatives for encouraging innovation and boosting tech entrepreneurship. This year’s theme is the "connected world" and "Internet of Things". We have created this platform to aid participants in developing prototypes of their ideas to address real-world business challenges. We will nurture some of the relevant ideas in our Innovation Lab to drive competitive advantage for ITC’s businesses or our clients' businesses.”
Those interested in participating in this hackathon need to register on the iTech 2015 website and submit their IoT solution idea. The winners will be notified by ITC Infotech.
