Eugene “the smart trash can” no touch sensor allows effective and efficient recycling. With its smart phone app tracking the discards of your garbage, you will know when to replenish your grocery list. (images and video via Uzer)
With the World slowly turning into “The Jetsons” there is no need to have tech envy any longer. We may not have the flying cars, hovering homes or the comprehensive talking robotic maid but we are not so far from all that. How about your very own talking home appliance. His name is Eugene, the smart trash can. It takes the hassle and confusion out of recycling while making it fun. By simply waving the UPC barcode from your trash’s packaging in front of Eugene’s sensor he will tell you how to properly recycle. On a small screen on the smart trash can he will tell you which part of the packaging belongs in what bin. For example, if the contents contain a metal cap, paper wrapping and a glass bottle it’ll tell you exactly where to place each item. Also, it will let you know which contents cannot be recycled at all and to just throw them away.
That’s not all Eugene the smart trash can do for you, it comes with a smart phone compatible app that will keep record of the items as they are thrown away. You will know exactly what to replenish on your grocery list. He will automatically provide suggestions for when you may need to restock your refrigerator for more eggs, milk, cheese, bread, etc. and can even set up online orders to have replacements delivered to your home. If you are watching your diet he will track the nutritional information for you as well. So, you will be able to keep a watch on your food intake just by taking out the trash.
This innovative and interactive idea is truly changing the nature of recycling, while simultaneously saving nature. With global warming being such a huge topic these days and people wanting to know how can they contribute in any way possible in saving the Earth. Eugene is the simplest answer, this smart trash can will help keep tabs on how well you are recycling. Most people fail to realize but recycling paper products it reduces global warming. Production of recycled paper uses 65% less energy than paper production using raw materials. Reducing energy consumption reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Also, recycling one ton of paper saves about 17 trees from being cut down. Each tree helps reduce global warming by capturing and holding carbon dioxide, a huge greenhouse gas. So, buying this smart trash can be a way bigger investment than one will ever know.
While Eugene is still in the prototype stages and not expected to be released until 2017 in France. The startup company Uzer who's responsible for this ingenious idea is currently campaigning to acquire more funding via KissKissBankBank, France’s version of Kickstarter. They have plans to attend CES (The Consumer Electronic Show), this annual trade show put together by the Consumer Technology Association will be held in January 2017. There Uzer hopes to proudly flaunt the smart trash can to the U.S. for the first time. Which possibly could be a match made in eco-friendly heaven, to implement Eugene the smart trash can since the U.S. currently is having the Smart Cities Challenge. This challenge aims to initiate cities across the U.S. to demonstrate solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create new practical climate change results. Eugene the smart trash can would definitely be a great addition to our efforts.
