ST is today introducing a new innovative approach making our global portfolio available to our customers in an easy to use, affordable way.
STM32 Open Development Environment is the answer to the market need allowing to quickly prototype, develop and industrialize solutions for innovative markets such as the Internet of Things, enabling customers to access the broad rich portfolio of IP available in ST.

in brief STM32 Open Development environment is the openf flexible easy and affordable way to develop innovative devices and applications based on STM32 combined with other ST components connected via expansion boards.. an open ecosystem to enhance choice, flexibility and support to our customers.

This new approach removes all barriers between fast prototyping with leading-edge components and commercial products designs: quick transformation into final designs..

Easy as a child game .... as easy as 1.2.3.!

1/ define your application functionalities & select STM32 Nucleo board + specific expansion boards to be plugged
2/ choose your preferred toolset and development environment from our ecosystem and third-party offer, add all necessary design Softwares supplied by our STM32Cube Platform comprising STM32CubeMX graphical configurator and code generator + set of rich embedded-SW components including HAL and middleware applicable to the microncontroller….
All in one a large set of tools and libraries

3/ implement, compile all data and easily create any application …

This is the way to go.  Please don't limit this just to one kind of hardware, by their nature ARM variants are pretty compatible, code-wise.  Please expand support to CooCox, EmBlocks and Eclipse.  It is very difficult to code ARM bare-metal.  Way easier to mute examples due to all the hardware layers extant in the mpu.

Individual companies in the ARM rainbow shouldn't fret too much if their tools are used on someone else's chip now and again.  It all comes around.  Having more people around who can code ARM is going to benefit the ARM community at large.  I believe this is what marketing needs most, now.  If you want people to buy your specific concern's hardware, make better hardware.  You'll get 'em next time!
