For my WeatherBrella, I'm hoping to use a single NeoPixel in the handle, so I did some investigating and found out that SparkCore had already adjusted the Adafruit NeoPixel library to work with their microcontroller. So, here is a single NeoPixel on D2 hooked up, with power coming from the USB. I'm starting to gain some comfort in using the website to adjust the program, which then makes it ready for the SparkCore app on my phone. I'm able to merely flash it on my phone using the WiFi connection -- pretty exciting stuff. You know the sure test is when you unplug it, and then plug it back in again. Yes, the program is still there and the rainbow is happening. 
I got a quick video of it (excuse the poor lighting, as I didn't want to wake my sleeping husband).
My next step will be to start working on the code that I've found that will be most helpful in this project. That will involve GPS location, weather forecasts and my NeoPixel. Sounds like fun, right? I think so. I just really hope I don't need a shift register thingy, as I already have a tight squeeze for the umbrella handle!
