nfc digital output

perigalacticon

Hello,

I am completely new to nfc but have an application in mind.  Is it possible to have something like an nfc tag that will output a digital signal when a phone is brought near?  I am just looking for a single digital high pulse to use as input to a microcontroller.  Are there nfc tags that have digital outputs?  Any references I can review?

Thanks

If your just simply looking for the presence and don't care what the actual response it then any NFC tag will do

The Master unit will detect the TAG and output the code to any connected MCU. I would suggest you use the code though to ensure that no unauthorized users are able to interfere.

If your looking for the TAG like device to do something then a simple coil, diode and cap will provide you a sense of a magnetic field and this can simply be fed into an opamp/comparator then to an MCU. if you tune the coil/cap to be the NFC frequency then it can be more selective of course

    Peter,

Yes, I want the user to activate a toy by bringing the smartphone near it.

I thought a nfc tag in the toy might be able to send a digital signal out to the toy's microcontroller which would then run a program in the toy.

So if it's an nfc tag in the toy, are there any that have a digital output that can signal a microcontroller that the tag has been activated?

I definitely want to have the smartphone as the activation device so I guess that would be 2.4GHz ?  I haven't worked with radio electronics before so I was hoping to get something 'pre-packaged'.

    Thanks!
