IoT starter question

Question

this is probably already listed somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it. mainly as Ben Heck keeps distracting me with his videos.

I am wanting to make an IoT device that can be switched on using alexa/smart phone the inputs and outputs I am happy at sorting and code shouldnt be to much of an issue.

My question is what is the best micro processor to use that allows control using ifttt applets or similar. it only needs 2 or 3 digital inputs 1 digital out and the ifttt ability

On monday night one of the guys demonstrated Mongose OS and using it on ESP32.

If you are using Arduino based IDE, they are almost identical. So you can use either . With ESP 32 you have an additional BLE funcnality so you can control your device via BLE also Regards, GS Gill

ESP8266 can use IFTTT (i believe) and is dirt cheap. I bought five of the nodeMCU development boards for about £12, which give full access to the i/o. but you can get ones such as the ESP-01 which only have a couple of i/o available. you can find loads on the ESP8266 online as well

there is also the option of the ESP32 dual core unit, still very cheap but with bluetooth as well and faster cores.

You can literally use any single board computer that supports you connecting it to internet. Further you can choose from varity of MCU platforms like CC3200 or ESP 8266 or etc. Almost all of the newer platforms would support IFTTT To choose, if you want to get going quickly and cheeply go for ESP8266 Dont Buy the Sconoff kits /etc they have limited GPIO, if you want more computation or serious processing or GUI or etc Go for a Simgle board computer either Raspberry Pi or Beagle Bone Black. It may possible that you already build or make something which you want to but as a member and IoT developer I will suggest you to go with the Nodemcu which is ESP12E base it will helpful too and if you are looking for a ready hardware where you can do almost anything I will suggest you go with any of the sonoff modules (according to your requirement) which will be esp8266 base so you will easily do its programming using Arduino IDE so you will get amazing community support if you need any help.
