Poll: How Reliable is IoT?

IoT security is always at the top of the list of the Big Issues of IoT. There's also a lot of concern about wireless connectivity and power management. What about reliability? How reliable is IoT? Does IoT work when you need it work? If it isn't, what can improve IoT reliability?

  • I have a love-hate relationship with WiFi.

    With a wired connection it tends to just work reliably once you plug it in. The trouble is getting that ethernet cable to the device.

     

    WiFi is nice in that it connects up easily, but I've run into so many signal-strength issues, and WiFi AP name or password update pains, that I now try to connect via ethernet cable first whenever possible.

     

    And the Raspberry Pi... Pi WiFi hates me image

     

    For commercial IoT devices, I find the provider's website is often a huge performance bottleneck. And there's the worry that there are so many IoT startups competing for the space that the one I choose may not exist in a year or two.
