ECG signal amplication

Good morning.

I just received my Raspberry Pi. I am a very very beginner, with some knowledge in programming, trying to learn JAVA but a dummy in electronics.

Could someone tell me how to amplify an ECG signal so that it can be "seen" by the GPIO? Between 1 and 5 mV.

    Be very careful using devices like RPI as ECGs. There are strict standards for medical equipment connected to the mains, even via PCs, USB or power supply bricks and it is unlikely that the typical cheapo USB power supply used with an RPI will comply. These standards are to ensure the safety of people connected to medical equipment. The very good and direct electrical connection the ECG probes make with the "patient" make the risk of electric shock much higher than for someone just using a normal device held in their hand.
