Dhananjaya Dendukuri, was chosen as humanitarian of the year at the recent EMTech conference in Bngalore. Dendukuri was rewarded for developing a microfluidic-chip based platform to perform low-cost medical diagnostic tests which focussed on immunoassays (protein tests).
The platform allows samples of blood, urine, saliva, or other body fluids to be loaded directly on to a plastic microfluidic chip and tested for the presence of multiple analytes in a few minutes. Read the full story in CIOL here.
This sounds a great innovation. Researchers in medical electronics really have the opportunity to change the world for the better. Can you think of any other recent innovations that have the potential to make so big an impact?
