I did some work in the medical field some years ago, and everything was embedded OS based. We had a full featured operating system running on all hardware developed. I started working with WinCE 4, which at the time was already obsolete. Slowly, WinCE 6 was adopted for all new projects. Even the 6.0 development environment was dated, and that was 3 years ago. I could see one of the current mobile OS platforms easily migrating into medical equipment. They are quite stable now, easy to develop in, and very inexpensive to boot. I tried to push a different OS, but the company I was with was too ingrained in WinCE. But, has the tide changed?
To all those engineers developing medical equipement, what OS are you currently working with, and where do you see the future headed?
Future engineers, pay attention this with one.
