People who have lost the use of their legs haven’t had many options to choose from regarding mobility. Most use wheel chairs to help get themselves around. Some become inventors and design devices that let them walk again like Amit Goffer. The Israeli entrepreneur designed robotic ‘trousers’ called ReWalk after he was wounded and left paralyzed during his military service. His design uses leg braces that are equipped with motion sensors and motorized joints that detect subtle upper-body movement and shifts in balance to help the user walk with the inclusion of crutches. The pants are held in place with a harness and a backpack holds the rechargeable battery and computer that uses a special algorithm to help with walking. Even though the battery only holds a three and a half hour charge, for people who have lost the use of their legs, that’s a lifetime. The unit will be available in January for around $100,000 after more testing in America and Israel. For more information and video of ReWalk please visit: http://www.argomedtec.com/
