Hi Alistair!
Haahaha i am the "jogging" guy
The activity monitor uses 32-bit microcontroller from Freescale, MCF51MM256CLL, this MCU has integrated operational and transimpedance amplifiers so we build an instrumentation amplifier with them to instrument the EKG signal cming from the electrodes, you are able to get ekg and heart rate signal from that to evaluate your fitness activity, the MCU is also driving a QVGA display (color).. it also has a usb battery charger from Freescale (MC34673AEPR2). We have implemented pedometer functionality with a small accelerometer also from Freescale MMA7660FCR1MMA7660FCR1, so the device counts the number of steps are given or "jogging" hehe and makes a calculation on how much calories are burn, finally it has a 2.4 GHZ wireless transceiver, and we plan to implement ZigBee connectivity in the near future MC13202FCR2.
please send me an email and I can share preliminary documentation, we will make it available in freescale webpage soon, i can also send you schematics, gerbers, sources and software.
Here is the email cuauhtemoc@freescale.com, also if you want to receive more info on other medical devices, I am @healthdevices in twitter.
