How are you using AC/DC Motors Drives in your IIoT Design

rscasny
rscasny over 6 years ago

Motor Drives are more than a standalone speed/torque controller for your plant floor process machinery. They are an integral component of an automation system. There benefits on the factory floor generally include better energy efficiency, improved safety, better repeatability, and decreased downtime, etc. In the world of IIOT, they are a connected device such that they can gather data to be used for overall process improvements.

In what in and interesting ways are you utilizing AC/DC drives in your IIoT design?

I've been working with DC stepper motors, trying to control them autonomously without using processor clock ticks.

Stepper Motor Control with Hercules High-End Timer - Part 8: HET Based Pulse Train Output

BeagleBone Control Stepper Motors with PRU - Part 5: It Works

I've taken a similar approach both times: use the autonomous timer module to generate the motor movement profile and have the main controller free to do any other activity in parallel.
