It's always miserable when a customer brings you up short like that - bad luck.
It's very hard to comment without a picture - could you post one ?
The way most biggish one off pro-equipment is wired to look neat is by using trunking, din rail terminals where appropriate etc.
Here are two of mine - the neat one is finished and the less neat one is being debugged so some wires have been pulled out of the trunking.
You can buy the trunking from Farnell !
Michael,
Trunking/Wire duct is a good idea. You photo shows a pretty clean interface box. I would say mine is similar, but no wire duct. Could you help me find it in the E14/Newark store? I can not for some reason.
I will try and post a picture.

Hello,
12.5mm x 12.5mm self adhesive trunking from Farnell:
I posted this video a few weeks ago. Looks quite a quick, easy way for neat wiring http://www.element-14.com/community/message/23799#23799, Newark sku is 32T8736
Awinning and Michael,
Thank you for the links & videos. But, for me, those options are to expensive. It's all a $1 USD per foot, or so.
I challenge you to make it cheaper. Perhaps other solutions are less expensive. For example, coil/spiral wrap and zip-stripping periodically to mounted spots.
Thanks.

Our company is making controllers in an box with transparant front. We are using an old technic witch look perfect. We are wiring all connectors with separate wireless and at last we bind this cable tree together with an endless cord . You have to make knots About every 10 to 15 mil and Bind to the last wire. yes, it take one hour but the result is a perfect wire tree which can be mounted into sight of every customer. I can send you a photo of such way off binding.

If your time is worth nothing or the retro look is chargeable then lacing is a reasonable solution and can look very neat and is reliable. The advantage of trunking is the ease with which additions or changes may be made later and the low skill level needed for an acceptable result. The Hellerman stuff is about £3 per meter but you can get alternatives for much less. In boxes like the two I posted the pictures of then £10 for trunking is lost in the noise - the relays in the big boxes were about £100 each, I think the total BOM cost was over £1000.
