Battery Simulator Application in Cellphone Battery Test

The role of battery simulator is to emulate various output states and charging & discharging characteristics of real batteries. It can change the battery SOC, depth of discharge, open circuit voltage, internal resistance and other conditions at any time according to the needs of users, and rapidly verify the DUT's response under different battery conditions. In short, it is a virtual battery to replace real batteries to execute various test.

Nowadays, most consumer electronics need to be powered by Li-ion batteries. Especially in the cellphone industry, battery life are becoming increasingly prominent. The test for batteries is becoming more and more stringent. Compared with real batteries, battery simulator possesses the following advantages. It can simulate the battery variation curve, shorten the test cycle and repeat the test through the established model, which can improve the reliability of the test data and save production cost.

NGI N8352 series is specially designed for the R&D and test of portable battery-operated products, such as Bluetooth headsets, cellphones, AR/VR smart terminals, electric tools, etc. The current flows in both directions and can be used as either a power supply or a load. N8352 is easy to use with touch screen and UI design. The output features are comparable to actual batteries, with fast dynamic response, no overshoot in voltage rise and fall, and stable waveform. The resolution is up to nA level, which can test the standby power consumption. N8352 can be widely used in consumer electronics testing.

What are the advantages of N8352 in cellphone battery test? Let's find out.

Current flowing in both directions to make N8352 both a power supply and a load

Both channels of N8352 can charge and discharge. Thus either channel can be used as a power supply, connecting to cellphone power terminal. The other channel can be used as a battery, connecting to cellphone battery terminal. Both charging and discharging performance can be tested without changing the cables. A single N8352 can be used to test a charge & discharge protection board without additional switches, which greatly reduces the complexity of the test system and improves testing stability and efficiency.

Variable output impedance allowing battery internal resistance simulation

N8352 has the battery internal resistance simulation function, and supports resistance value programming. The programmable range is 0-1Ω, which can emulate the variation curve consistent with the real battery internal resistance characteristics.

Built-in fault simulation

Besides the battery normal state, the following fault states can also be simulated: open circuit, polarity reverse and short circuit.

DVM Test Function

Besides battery simulator function, N8352 series also provides basic circuit measurement function. It has two built-in high-accuracy DVM to test external voltage. The voltage range is -30V ~ 30V, and the display resolution is 0.1mV. The touch screen will show the dynamic data, which is convenient for users to observe the voltage changes.
