Cobra's JumPack comes packing enough power to jump start your car

One common car problem many people face sooner or later is a dead battery. It can happen for multiple reasons, the most common one being the lights left on. To fix these problems many people use jumper cables or jumper boxes.  An additional option drivers will now have is Cobra's JumPack.

The JumPack will come with a light, USB port, and LEDs indicating the charge remaining (via COBRA)

Making its debut on the first day of CES 2014, the JumPack is capable of jumping cars, trucks, motorcycles, or just about anything with a battery. Amazingly, the JumPack looks more like an external battery for charging your phone or iPod. Compared to a traditional jumper pack  the device is miniscule, the JumPack is 5” long x 2.8” wide x 1” tall and can output 200 – 400 Amps upon jump starting. In addition, it features a USB port for charging any type of mobile device and it has LED lights to indicate the amount of charge remaining within the unit. Other than just charging mobile devices or starting cars, the JumPack will also have a flashlight integrated into its design.

This design will make jumping a dead battery more convenient than it has ever been. Storing the device will also be just as convenient. The battery comes with detachable mini jumper cables with wires that are no longer than 6 inches. Their product will be available in April and will cost around $129.95. I haven't had to jump my vehicle since it's manufacturing date left the 1990s... but I feel like I should get one...

Super Caps are most likely deployed within the Cobra unit? How do they handle the current draw when jump starting an automotive battery? It is unlikely they provide #6 Cable with the pocket sized unit?

Shocking!  I find the idea of a device that can deliver that much power in such a small package to be somewhat disconcerting, times being what they are.

On a lighter note, do they have a joke to replace the classic about starter cables?

A guy wants to get into a night-club, but the bouncer tells him he can't go in without a necktie, and no, they don't have any "loaners".  The guy goes back to his car to see if there's anything he might use for a necktie.  The only thing that might do are his starter cables.  He figures it's worth a try, so he ties them on and goes back to the club.  The bouncer looks at him dubiously, and then says: "OK, you can go in... but don't start anything!"

    Hi Cabe,

I had an interesting thought while reading this post.

How do you jump and electric car?

    Interesting dilemma, isn't it.
