High-tech and High-fashion Wearables that people People can Actually Afford

Wearable technology is becoming all the rage with designers hoping to stay on-trend and keep customers flocking to their stores. I suppose this is particularly important now that on-line shopping can keep us out of big retail stores.

The biggest, hottest fashion trend has been bracelets that look attractive and act as lightweight phone chargers providing up to 60% more battery life. Among some of the designers who have created high fashion, designer wearable tech, are Q designs (by James Kernan and Alessandro Libani), Intel's MICA, and Rebecca Minkoff.

We are featuring Rebecca Minkoff's wearable technology bracelets because they actually look great and don't come with the same price tag as Intel's MICA.

Minkoff teamed up with Case-Mate to create these bracelets, which debuted on September 5th 2014, at the Spring '15 New York Fashion Week. The bracelets can currently be pre-ordered for prices starting at $60. They will be released for retail near the winter holiday season, and are expected to debut at Nordstrom.

The black studded-leather bracelet seen in the photo acts as a phone power charger, which can be connected via USB for use anytime and anywhere. This bracelet is expected to retail at $60.

The gold chain-linked bracelet is a pretty cool concept that gives notifications when you get texts, calls, or alerts (only from people you designated in advance). This is a good way to stop from constantly checking your phone from phantom vibrations while you are supposed to be out enjoying yourself. Either that, or you will feel certain that you have a constant itch on your wrist. This one is expected to retail at $120, but can be pre-ordered for less.

All in all, this price tag is much less than Intel's MICA, snake-skin bracelets which will retail at just under $1000. That is quite a lot more than we mere mortals are willing to pay for something that is, honestly, unnecessary. But if you absolutely must have a tech bracelet that matches your handbag, then go for it. Personally, I would settle for a charger costing $10 from that dude on the street that I can keep in my bag for a rainy day.
