Many electric vehicle batteries take hours to charge. But now there's something even better on the horizon. Nyobolt, a UK-based EV startup, says it achieved the holy grail of battery charging technology. It claims the battery charges in just six minutes with a 155-mile range. Production is scheduled to begin next year. Nyobolt didn't provide much information on the internal battery technology. But it still promises high power, a long life cycle, and better safety features.
There have been some reports of lithium-ion batteries in EVs catching fire. And various battery makers are working to solve that issue by developing better alternatives. In comparison, Nyobolt says its battery has a wider temperature performance.
The startup is also working on testing its new battery technology. It partnered up with Callum Design to build a sports car called Nyobolt EV. Its Lotus Elise-inspired design appeals to many car owners and is built with high-tech in mind. However, Nyobolt hasn't set a production date for this sports car.
Even then, it can be rapidly scaled up next year. The battery underwent testing of 2,000 fast-charge cycles, achieving good performance. This is great for the EV market as it attempts to match the range and performance of gas-powered vehicles. Nyobolt is also thinking about deploying its battery in trucks, buses, and luxury vehicles.
