Multiple output DC to DC converter

Hi everybody.

I am working on a Arduino project using H-bridge (L293D) to drive two motors and I would like to have my project to be powered by an unique power source.

I have an AC/DC power supply that is outputting ~16V at ~1000mA and I am wondering if it is possible to get a stable +5V for the Arduino and the remaining for the motors via the H-Bridge

Is It possible and how to achieve that ? voltage divider (going down from 16V to 5V seems a waste) ?

I would provide separate supplies for the logics and for the drives, and use an opto-isolator to facilitate communication between them. The requirements for the two supplies are divergent. It is churlishly cheap to try to get a twofer here.
