Raising the voltage to use a photocell

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Anyone know how can i raising the voltage of a photocell?, from 0.5 volts to 5 volts, the photocell give me 0.5 volts and 9 amp, the problem is that if i use operational amplifier, i don't have the power to energize a small engine, i appreciate any information that  could be usefull or component that resist the power.image

Have you measured the voltage and current to be sure.

0.5v at 9 Amps = 4.5w and most panels of this output power usually are of a higher voltage like 12v or even some at 6v.

Is there any specifications for it.? (I did see there were no labels visible in the pictures)

I think your best option is to replace it with something of a similar size but a more user friendly voltage.

Sounds more like a single cell voltage Mark. either he's going to need more cells to get a working voltage or use a Switch mode boost converter to jack it up to something useful. Quite likely a combination of both of those will be the best.
