Charging two 18650 batteries with one TP4056 module

yukardo

Hello,

I want to know if it is possible to charge two 3.7 V 18650 batteries with one TP4056 module.

The batteries would be connected in parallel.

I hope you can help me.

Thanks.

You can, as paralleled cells behave like one larger cell. Charge time will be longer, accordingly. Just be sure the cells you are paralleling are of the same make/model/capacity/state of charge/age and…

Obviously you are doing this to get more battery capacity. What is the battery capacity you are aiming for ? MK

You can, as paralleled cells behave like one larger cell. Charge time will be longer, accordingly. Just be sure the cells you are paralleling are of the same make/model/capacity/state of charge/age and don't parallel more than the manufacturer's limit (normally 3 or 4 cells).

" ... the same make/model/capacity/state of charge/age ..", is required, otherwise a damage to cell or charger or both may result. I would not take a chance considering that  the TP4056 module is a small fraction of the cost of 18650.

If you need this for time to time charging in lab under your control, there is no need to be afraid of different model of capacity.

But for autonomous, unattended mode is strong requirements to have the same make/model/capacity/state of charge/age. And in this mode of run, I would strongly recommend to have some temperature sensor and possibility of automatic power off. But then you are loosing way of cheap solution. But automatic control of charging is worth of it.
