As the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games gathers pace, EDF Energy has unveiled the real-time energy monitoring technology that will be working at many venues and landmarks like Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
‘Visi’ will show the public how energy is being used during the games via EDF’s ‘Power the Games Live’ website and through a new mobile-friendly version for smartphones.
The technology displays energy consumption information in an easy-to-understand format and allows viewers to see the effect of external factors like weather.
As well as enabling the public to see the benefits of energy-saving features at Olympic Park venues like intelligent low-energy lights at the Olympic Stadium to natural ventilation at the Velodrome, Visi will also allow managers to keep a handle on energy use during the Games.
After the Games are over, Visi will remain in use at the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre and Velodrome as a legacy.
The technology can also be used by businesses to help employees engage with energy management efforts and energy efficiency strategies.
